Meet the Principal

Erica Gilbert grew up in the Burlingame Community, attending Hoover School, Kindergarten through 6th grade, then moved up to Burlingame Intermediate School for 7th and 8th grade and after, Mills for High School.

After earning her bachelor’s degree and then completing her Teacher Credential Program at San Francisco State University Erica taught in the Jefferson Elementary School District in Daly City teaching elementary and middle school, as well as beginning her administrative experience as Leadership Teacher and completing her master’s degree in Educational Administration. Erica moved to Sunnyvale School District as a Sunnyvale Middle School Assistant Principal, and later became an elementary school principal in the district. After 12+ years in Sunnyvale, Erica moved to the Los Altos School District for the opportunity to re-open an elementary school in the Los Altos Hills.

As Erica’s family was growing and her oldest was starting kindergarten, she wanted to be closer to her neighborhood school and her sons. She moved to Belmont-Redwood Shores as an elementary principal and then to the PJCC as the pre-school director.

Erica has worked with student’s pre-school through eighth grade for more than 20 years. After taking some time to care for her elderly father after a stroke, and soon after COVID-19 closed the world down, Erica stayed home with her boys, ensuring they had what they needed to continue learning every day. Erica is very excited to return to BIS to support students, staff and the community on the journey through middle school.
